Fliff Carr Ceramics

From early childhood Fliff has been fascinated by the collecting habits of past generations and their recorded and secret histories. They have inspired in her a love of objects and their relationship to daily life. These collected artefacts, fragments of a past narrative are a constant inspiration for her work. Collected items as well as detail from fields as diverse as book illustration, cathedral glass, machinery and lace inform the texture, shape and imagery present in her collection.

Enjoying the subtle shades and intricate details of vintage fabrics and the textures of old lace as well as ‘found objects’ from the banks of the Thames, she applies these sources of inspiration to her work as embossed, stamped or inlaid detail.

Fliff Carr is a London ceramicist whose work is mostly thrown and hand-rolled domestic ware. She uses white earthenware clay, an opaque vellum or transparent glaze over coloured slips and underglazes. Each piece is unique, whether in form or detail, and she tries to allow for spontaneous invention.
Swoon stocks her beautiful and whimsical 'At the Circus' and 'Bird' collections of decorative plates. As all products are handmade sizes and colour may vary slightly. Each plate is unique.
